In a collection teeming with tailored suits, sophisticated silhouettes, and boating blazers, the French Maison recalls the lively spirit of the quintessential 1920s Englishman.
While many of the industry’s high-profile designers have drawn inspiration from archetypal clothing from past decades—most recently, the ’70s and the ’90s have served as especially popular picks—Hedi Slimane, the artistic director of Celine, is focusing his vision further back in history for the Celine Homme Spring/Summer 2025 collection. In a sophisticated clothing line that pulls its inspiration from the smartly dressed Englishman of the 1920s, lightweight summer cashmere pieces, pleated trousers, and three-piece suits—iconic waistcoats included—take center stage.
In the Celine Homme Spring/Summer 2025 collection, aptly titled “The Bright Young,” Slimane takes on a fantastically vintage-inspired aesthetic and imbues it with the youthful vibrancy that has become part of his signature design style. In a cinematic presentation of the collection, Slimane debuted the collection against a backdrop of rolling green hills, galloping horses, and the majesty of the Holkham Hall estate in Norfolk, all set to the soundtrack of the spectacular opera ballet piece, “Les Indes Gallantes” by Baroque-era composer Jean-Philippe Rameau.
Refined jackets, featuring edges adorned by eye-catching colorful trim, are joined by pinstriped suiting, trailing tailcoats, sleek leather oxfords, brilliantly cut white button-down shirts, effortlessly draped patterned scarves, and dapper brimmed hats. These ultra-chic, retro-inspired pieces also accompanied a series of all-white looks, paying homage both to the iconic looks worn by F. Scott Fitzgerald, who spent glamorous summer holidays at the Hotel Eden Roc in Antibes, as well as the classic monochromatic cricket whites donned by gentlemen during leisurely warm afternoons spent in the English countryside.
While each and every look is full of posh English flair on its own, Slimane opted to add striped or patterned ties, bowties, and scarves to many of the ensembles, imbuing them with a smart, suave touch.
In a collection rife with the mysterious, utterly magnetic allure of ’20s-era English style, Slimane takes on an entirely new aesthetic for Celine, bringing forth a sense of fresh, youthful vigor and sophistication to the world of men’s fashion.
